I get asked this all the time…sometimes frantically.
Apparently some of you need an emergency screen shot of something on the web…I don’t ask questions…I just answer them.
Here’s some help. You can bookmark for future reference.
Now I like to eliminate all the toolbars I have on my page so I get the maximum screenage possible. And so no one can see that I have 20 windows bookmarked and tagged to every shopping site.
If you have a PC, locate the PrtSc or Print Screen button on your keyboard. Push it. We are just at any random site, in case you were wondering…
(If you have a MAC, you have it made…you don’t need this tutorial. You are laughing at us for still having PC’s)
Open up Paint under Accessories.
Click Edit, Paste, and your screen capture pops up. Why it’s Sawyer… How random is that? Isn’t he cute!?!
With the cursor on the screen, you can move the picture around in the application until you get it just where you want it. Go ahead…move it in circles…
I know it’s fun…now stop.
See how I got rid of the bars up at the top? Now when you save it, you get the image of the screen only…
… and it would look like this if you save it as a picture (jpeg, gif, png)
…see the little lines around the picture? They are hard to see, but get your glasses and look closely. I can crop that out, by using the Select feature in the upper left of paint. I’ve outlined the picture I want to cut out. Then Edit, Cut
I know, Sawyer just disappeared, it scared me too.
Hit File, New (save the old one or not, up to you), Edit, Paste…
Oh, HE’S BAAAACK!!
Do you see him? Blow him a kiss…and File, Save As…in your extension of choice (jpeg, gif, png)
There are better screen capture programs that turn out clearer, but for those emergency photo grabs, this is a lifesaver.
No, I don’t have a gagillion pictures of hot guys that I’ve captured off the internet. Sheesh.
This is a great way to send a favorite post to a friend or send a shot of your blog to someone.
Just remember there are copyright laws and Sawyer can’t be used for commercial purposes. He probably can’t be used for this, but you won’t tell, now will you?

Thanks for the tutorial! Happy Holidays!

Great tut! Thanks so much. I actually knew how to do this at one point but totally forgot. Now I know.
I’ve done this a couple of times, but so infrequently I keep forgetting. Great reference!
