NanoLite Gets More Than My Foot In The Door

I complain all the time about not being able to see with these 47, almost 48 year old eyes.

I’ve been known to *miss* the key in the keyhole a few times.  When you get to be MY age, dusk and dark are the hardest times.  I received the coolest gadget to review.   I say that a lot, but bear with me, this one is saweet…

Nano1

The NanoLite is the smallest adhesive light on the market today.  (key not included)  Take off the removeable back, attach it to your key, tools…the adhesive bond is made with a high bond tape adhesive that isn’t going anywhere (yes, I picked at it, wouldn’t move).  Press the recessed button on the light, and your key will find it’s way to the right spot!

Best part?  It’s only $2.99 at Amazon.  You’ll want one on each set of keys.

dimensions .56″ x .7″ and .2 thick.
operating life of up to 3 years.
shelf life of up to 10 years.

If you try one, please let me know what you think!

Netbook, Notebook, Can You Get It All Straight?

I think I know everything, am smart and savvy, and then I get whacked and find that I’ve got that *deer in headlights* look. That’s my feeling about buying a notebook computer.

I think it has to do with the processor.  Used to be you bought a Pentium because that was the best and your choice was a I or a II.  *Ah the simple life*

pentium I processor

Now between Intel and AMD there are so many different *names* on the market, my head spins. I had planned to buy a netbook to take to BlogHer and Typeamomcon. You know, maybe a Vivenne Tam, or a Mini 10 in pink? Then I did a little research…and by research I mean I called the people at Intel and picked their brain for about an hour!  I’m good at bugging people like that…oh, and Suave hasn’t *quite* blocked my number *yet*…

First I’d like to talk about the whole netbook/mini decision.  They are cute, and fun, and wouldn’t you love to carry that around instead of a big old lappy?   Well, that depends on WHY you need a computer.  What are you using it for?  You need to consider functionality before you make the leap and buy a netbook.  According to a report issued by the NPD Group, 60% of people who purchase a netbook (also called the mini) thought it would have the same funcionality as a full size laptop.  Not necessarily so…

dell_mini_inspiron

I know, I’d look good in red!

You have to weigh your particular needs, the computer’s attributes, battery life, performance, size, before making a decision about buying a netbook vs a laptop. If all you want to do is check email, facebook, and look up a few websites, upload a few photos, and portability is key, then you will be fine with a netbook. Try to run photo processing software, operate multiple tasks, edit video, and you are going to be in trouble.

Going to BlogHer to take notes and tweet?   The mini will be great for you.  Get yours now…there are lots of specials  and refurbished ones at Dell.   Planning to process your flip videos , edit them, live blog and edit photos all weekend?… then bring a REAL laptop.

The processor is the brains behind the computer. And I found that two brains are better than one.   If you do a lot of video editing, are working multiple programs, photo editing and graphics, consider a dual core processor.  Are you looking for a gaming system?  You’ll want the higher end product like the Pentium 4.  I’m currently looking at the Acer Timeline with Intel Core2 Duo technology. Has an 8 hour battery life and prices on the timeline start at $699. If Jupiter aligns with Mars, that’s what I’ll be toting to BlogHer!

acer-timeline

Confused by the fact that there are dozens of different names for processors and you can’t compare an orange in one store to an orange in another?  Intel plans to simplify their branding in the future, so that you know what level of processor you are purchasing whether you go to Dell, HP or Acer.  Look for consistency in names down the road.

And if you are going to BlogHer, stop by the Intel booth and say hi to the people there!  You can tell them I sent you, I think it’s *ok*!!

Old enough to be your very smart older sister…

You know it’s weird to me that many of the friends I have online are closer in age to my kids that to me!  When I talk to friends like Amy @Resourcefulmom and Jessica @Jessicaknows, it’s like I’m talking to any girl, but the truth is they are closer in age to my 20 year old…heck they are closer in age to my 16 year old!

I turn 48 this summer…which I guess is made more and more real as the icons of my younger (sexier, skinnier, blonder, agespotfreer) days pass away.  I grew up with Farrah and MJ.  Not to mention that both of my parents died in their early 60’s.  Mortality is very real to me and my place in this world is very real to me, as I have no brothers and sisters.

What’s even weirder?  I’m still finding out what I’m going to do with my life….I HAVE NO IDEA BEYOND WHAT YOU SEE HERE (don’t blink or you’ll miss it)

So if you are a kid, you know, in your 30’s *wink, wink*, enjoy every day like it’s the most important day you’ll have.  Live each day like every moment counts for something.  And whatever you do, love the ones who love you most.  They are really all matters in life.

Now everyone calm down, this blog will return to it’s regularly scheduled posting of “stuff”.

Plantronics Voyager PRO Review and Giveaway

VoyagerPro_A_rgb_Preview

I know, it’s all about hands-free these days! But have you ever had the Bluetooth that hurt your ear so much you couldn’t leave it in more than a few minutes? These days with the amount of time we spend in the car, comfort is something you don’t take for granted

I was given the Plantronics Voyager PRO Bluetooth to review. Set up with my Blackberry was easy, sound was clear and noise free, but here’s the clincher. IT’S SO COMFORTABLE I HARDLY KNOW IT’S THERE…

..from the site…

two noise-canceling mics on a boom to best capture your voice, three layers of WindSmart technology to outsmart the wind, and an adaptive 20-band equalizer tuned to maintain rich, balanced audio at comfortable listening volumes despite the noise around you

…which means the sound is great!

I was going to give it to the big guy, but I’ve hidden it in my handbag now. It’s mine. He can save for his own. Now usually I prefer Bluetooth devices without the longer mic, but this may account for the clarity. And frankly I don’t care because MY EAR DOESN’T FEEL LIKE IT HAS A ROCK IN IT…BOOYAH!

You need this for your vacation drive ….(mine will be coming with me on the ROADTRIP TO BLOGHER WITH @JESSICAKNOWS AND @TWINCIDENT, BUT THEY MIGHT WANT THEIR OWN CAUSE I’M NOT SHARING)

And I just got off the phone with @twincident and she didn’t know who I was at first, I sounded so clear…great testimonial!

Good news as you get ready for your vacations this summer! I have one Plantonics Voyager Pro to giveaway to a Short Pump Preppy reader!
