Protecting your identity -tips from the NFCC

Print

Did you know that even the most responsible of us can become a victim of identity theft?  I wanted to introduce you to the nonprofit organization, National Foundation for Credit Counseling, as Protect Your Identity Week is coming to a close.  Even though we are at the tail end of the week,  now more than ever it is so important to protect ourselves and our families from theft and invasion.

I not only worry for myself, but for my kids, who don’t think about protecting what is theirs so often.  I got in the car with Cute and Sassy, and noticed she had a piece of paper with all her Equestrian Society numbers and her SSN…she needed those to fill out an entry form and she had left the paper out in plain site.  Again they don’t think of the consequences and can be making it way to easy…

It’s scary but true that last year alone, nearly 10 million Americans were victims of identity theft, making this the fastest growing crime in America! Everyday we may be putting ourselves and our families at risk by simply writing a check, using a credit card or even our ATM cards. The best protection against such identity theft is education. By visiting www.ProtectYourIDNow.org, you can take a quiz and assess your risk of ID theft and learn helpful tips to keep you and your family safe. Since this crime is not going anywhere, it is time for us to fight back!

Be sure to visit NFCC on Facebook here and on Twitter for all the latest updates.

National Protect Your Identity Week, a program brought to you by NFCC and Council of Better Business Bureaus, is October 17-24.
