You know when I cook, I’m all about the easy. If it’s simple, I’m more likely to cook it and my family gets real food.
They seem to like real food. Go figure.
Sauces can be intimidating though. I lived in Louisiana for a while and had to learn to make a roux. In case you don’t know, a roux can only be made to perfection or they toss you out of the state. Hence my return to Virginia.
Not really, but I saw the look in their eyes.
Now that I’m living in the REAL WORLD I need to find foods that are easy to fix but my kids will like. And they like sauce.
Enter Shirley J Universal Sauce Mix.
Now you can get simple or fancy with this, but basically it is in a bag…you measure and mix with water for a basic sauce. No stirring until this point and standing over top of it like it’s going to run away.
We made a basic white sauce with chicken and pasta, and also made a saucy gravy adding some turkey sausage for biscuits. I KNOW, it’s like I’m a real cook!
The bag is huge, and makes a ton. You will have it for a while, but I can tell you I will be ordering more when this runs out. (mine is the big bag in the upper LEFT corner). I’m anxious to try the spices too.

Glad you liked it! I love the Universal Sauce too, I think the best thing about it is knowing that if you have a recipe that calls for heavy cream, sour cream or condensed soup you can just substitute it with Shirley J.
I am a huge fan of sauce. Since I cook chicken quite often, I am always trying to come up with a mixture of my own sauces to make it different each time.
I really want to try out this stuff!
