I can’t thank them enough for sponsoring the whole Bee Squad and I am proud to be associated with such a fabulous brand!

The party with Chef Scott was fabulous.  You know him from Hell’s Kitchen….he’s the cute one.. ;)   The overall vibe of the party was simple, fun, informative, and with food and beverage (HOLLA !).  Held at the Viking kitchens it had us all drooling over the fancy appliances.

Here are some of the fun photos from the event..

Black and White Photos with a Touch of Color: Create With Picnik.com

You know the photos that are black and white except for a small piece of clothing or a flower that is in color?  You have always wanted to know how to do that, right?

It’s easy with Picnik.com.

Take Barbie for instance…

She likes to shine in her closeups…

Start with a basic photo, but one with a shape that can be easily “separated” from the background to colorize.  You might not want to start with an object with winding parts like a tree.

Open up the photo in Picnik.com

barbie 1 Black and White Photos with a Touch of Color: Create With Picnik.com

Go to Create>Effects>Black and White

Settings to Original, and change the brush size to fit the object you want to colorize.

picnik2 Black and White Photos with a Touch of Color: Create With Picnik.com

While the application is open, the photo will turn to black and white.  Take the brush (you will see the cursor is a circle) and begin to run it over the area you want to colorize, in this case Barbie…

picnik6 Black and White Photos with a Touch of Color: Create With Picnik.com

picnik8 Black and White Photos with a Touch of Color: Create With Picnik.com

Now I’m going to twist or rotate it for effect, and as I do that I notice that i have over colored in one place…

picnik5 Black and White Photos with a Touch of Color: Create With Picnik.comI know, it’s slight but her underarm is yellowish…and it’s not a good look for Barbie!! ;)

Now hit the Black and White again, this time checking “Reverse” and “Effect”….

Now I can take my cursor and “UNDO” what I did.  Any spots that should NOT be color can be undone.  And by making the brush SMALLER I can hit a fine area to de-colorize.

picnik7 Black and White Photos with a Touch of Color: Create With Picnik.com

picnik9 final Black and White Photos with a Touch of Color: Create With Picnik.com

Can you do that?  I’d love to see your finished product!!

My Kleenex Learning Moments..

Well I did it.  I left my son in a huge city with mean people and germs.

OK, so the people seem nice and hopefully it will be cold enough in the winter to kill the germs.  After going through a box and a half of Kleenex, I’m getting over it, and remembering the days when he was young. And sweet.  And my baby boy….He’s equipped with his cat and his XBox and maybe my Wii – I had better check on that in a minute – and having a ball so far.

He has always been a video game guy, since he was 2.  We taught him numbers on the Sonic the Hedgehog game.  I KNOW!  Might as well make the most of an experience where he’s 1. paying attention and 2. having fun.  I remember how amazed I was at this 2 year old moment when he yelled “mom sixty six!!” and I looked at the TV and there was the number 66…stars, coins, or whatever Sonic had at that time.

He’s a brain.  He’s probably a video game addict.  But he’s ready for a job at a brokerage firm and I’m so proud of him.

Pass the Kleenex – you might want the Sneeze Shield Kleenex ones cause I’m all over the place – please, I’m on box number 2…

actually i am entering a contest with this post, although I am going through Kleenex like it grows on trees….wait does it?

Why my son needs to go and why the mice agree…

n1575780274 30251511 7520 Why my son needs to go and why the mice agree...Sunday will be a tough day.  I’ll be leaving my son in Chicago.  Not a bad place to leave a young 19 year old, but hard on mom none the less.  I’m not going to go into the “moms and their sons” thing, but if you have a boy you know what I mean…

He’s off to work at a brokerage firm, then in a while go to college.  His path has not been like the girls’.  He wasn’t able to attend high school in the regular fashion due to chronic debilitating migraines that he may have outgrown.  (This would be a good time to stop and say a prayer or get a soda if that’s not your thing)  He took a year after he graduated to think and exist, MOSTLY IN MY BASEMENT, and now he’s ready to get out of here.  And in a way I can’t describe because my heart won’t let me, I’m ready for him to leave.  However at the same time I dread saying goodbye. I’m definitely feeling the “will he ever come home” and if I were to move away from Richmond, “would we still be home” to him?

When my oldest left for college, she had been living away from me with her father for months.  So moving her into the dorm that fall was not that tough.  I had had my separation stabs in the gut months before.  This seemed like a fun time for her, headed to college, and that made it easy to say goodbye.  I heard from her every day – the glory of the cell phone age.  And now she keeps in touch less and less and loves her life and friends now.  She will take over the world someday and I will smile from the sidelines.

My youngest is starting the college search and I can see her loving every minute of dorm and apartment life and maybe even studying.

In contrast my son is headed to the city to live by himself with only his cat… where he knows no one.  For an introvert and video game “addict”, that is a tough and not necessarily encouraging thing.  I’m hoping he will find something or someone that he can connect with.  He should be crazy proud of himself for being brave enough to do this, and I pray that he loves it and moves on further in life: college, business, love…and that means not moving back home.

But wait, isn’t this all about me?  How does a mom say goodbye??  I’ve done my best to make him a man who can make it on his own.  And just when I thought I’d completely messed the whole thing and he would be here living with me forever, ending up one of THOSE kids in their mother’s basement,   he gets the best job offer and prepares to leave.  me.  leave me.  and his sister, but she’ll get over it. but  me.

I have to say goodbye.  I would be lying if I didn’t tell you I feel like someone punched me in the chest with a 2×4.  He never answers his phone when he’s down the road, so what makes me think he’ll answer it when he’s a gazillion miles away?  I cried for days when my oldest moved in with her father and I may have to cry for days when I get home from Chicago.

But not now.  He needs to know this is ok.  *I* need to know this is ok.

If he could get rid of the mice in the basement BEFORE he goes that would be great.  If not his sister and I will deal.  Or move to a mouseless house.

And I’ll just hope that my boy finds his way “home” sometimes.

I just depressed the heck out of you I know, and that’s not usually my thing.   Sorry, sometimes the “human” in me slides out.

After all I’m just a mom.

photo credit: stole from my son’s facebook even though we are not friends tho he is never on facebook so it might not matter.  he’s on the right and my oldest daughter is in the middle and the other guy happens to be Ben Folds.

A best friend would suffer through Jimmy Choo’s just for you…

Your best friend is the one who would talk to you anytime you are feeling down.

She takes you out to breakfast when it’s your birthday.

She will give you a kidney or maybe a cornea.

She will obsess with you over internet stalkers and all around weirdos.

She will spy on your ex husband with you in her daughter’s car with the lights turned off. (not that I know anything about that)

Totally random thoughts here….but sort of the kind of things a best friend would do…

What is the true sign of a best friend?

She gives you her Fit Flops at Blogher when your feet are toast.  The only pair of comfortable shoes in the place.   She sacrifices her own comfort for yours.  THE ONLY THING THE POOR GIRL HAD LEFT TO WEAR WAS A PAIR OF JIMMY CHOO’S…. I worship her.

I can dance if I want to…

I can leave my cares behind…

Not sure how much of a safety dancer I was.  I was more of an OMG SHE IS GOING TO THROW OUT A HIP OR A SPLEEN OR SOMETHING dancer.

It was such a blast.

Bloggy State of Mind had me busting some crazy moves (re-creation only)

And Sparklecorn had me sweatin’ to the groove – might have been my own groove just so you know….

I am icing the ankle that hurt all weekend long and propping my knee up on the dog’s blankie because I need it more than he does.

Worth every pain and gripe, because the BlogHer parties totally rocked.

I have to thank the girls of Bloggy State of Mind for their groovalicious dance expo and chance to get my groove on.  Do we still use that phrase?

I had an equally energetically impossible dance session at the Sparkelcorn Party.  I kissed Obama on the cheek.  And I hadn’t had anything to drink.  wow.

It would not have been a night to dance and remember if not for my friends @twincident, @resourcefulmom, @cassieaiden, @teachmama, @jennyonthespot, @reallifesarah, @cutestkidever, @slpowell, @bizziemommy @shaunaglenn, @carissarogers, @momrn, @rockandrollmama, @whodidimisscauseifeelsobad……

Wisk’s new laundry detergent takes on the tough stains… and news about my armpits

I hate laundry.  Anyone else feel the same lack of love?  Considering that I was in charge of all the laundry growing up, in our HUGE house of 3 I’ve been complaining a long time.  I am almost as old *shudders* as Wisk, the first liquid laundry detergent (1956) on the market.  Wisk® has been cleaning America’s laundry FOR ALMOST THE PAST 50 years. I have been hating laundry FOR ALMOST THE PAST 50 years.

wisk logo 300x191 Wisks new laundry detergent takes on the tough stains... and news about my armpits

Wisk® and I have so much in common.

I ruined every shirt with the “puberty sweats”  in the days before spot treaters and the days before special cleaning ingredients in detergents.  Back in the days you made a thick detergent paste to put on your underarm stains in the hopes they would come clean.  Even then Wisk packed a punch but my underarms came back swinging.

4 generations of cox family Wisks new laundry detergent takes on the tough stains... and news about my armpits

It was easier to wear a lot of white because it was easier to bleach.

I was too young in that photo to care or to sweat, but I was old enough to throw whatever food didn’t land on my clothes at the cat.   My mother is probably only smiling because she’s counting the days until I am old enough to do all the laundry.

I remember…

Now, they’ve upgraded their formula, but not their price, to tackle stains ..,your tough stains.  The formula includes Stain Spectrum™ Technology, enzymes and cleaning agents targeting the full range of stains on a molecular level for a powerful clean.

That’s sexy science speak for “gets it super clean.”

wisk bottle 220x300 Wisks new laundry detergent takes on the tough stains... and news about my armpits

No more “ring around the collar”.  Wisk is here to tackle all stains groups.

There are hundreds of different stains but most stains fall into three major groups:

* Carbohydrates such as milk chocolate
* Proteins such as grass
* Oils such as peanut butter

The other groups of stains include:

* Bio such as blood
* Bleachable such as coffee
* Particulate such as dirt
* Synthetics such as ink

Wisk attacks them all.  Look for future laundry challenges as I take on a few of these…or make my kids do it.

And one bottle cleans 32 loads and costs around $6.   Give it a try.  Stains are a pain but don’t have to be.

Visit Wisk.com to learn more about the Wisk’s Stain Spectrum™ Technology and to download a $1 OFF COUPON. Also check out Wisk on Facebook if you want to dish the “dirt” on stains!

This post is sponsored and content provided by Wisk and One2One Network (where I am the O2O Network blog editor), but all opinions are my own and yes I really did hate all that laundry and I really am almost 50.  GAH.
